This book is not only well done but holds an edge like a hunting knife. What makes this book so good is that it is does not follow any formula. It goes here and then it goes there. The writing is at times moving and at other times disturbing. The graphics are so well done that they are nothing less than thought provoking. I loved ths book and look forward to the next edition. I can't begin to imagine what will be in the next edition and thats what will make it great.

A fantastic collection of art and words. I particularly enjoy Shawna Mouser's work and it's all over the place in here. Oh, also Inga Semmingsen's account of the Norway attacks is just downright compelling and a must-read. Erin McParland's art/poem piece is great, as is her beautiful book design (I don't even want to think about how much time she spent in layout). And there's so much more!
I am a big art head. I can't get enough of anything visually eschew. This book has some of the most wonderfully sublime drawings, painting and photographs. Totally the perfect coffee table book for my apartment. There are quite a few things in this book that I have seen flash through my dreams and upon finding them here in the pages, I was so shocked! Like being greeted by an old friend! The best thing though, was that the art of course is accompanied by some truly unique and well done writing. The piece that really awed me was by Chuck Howe. A few of these writers have some very interesting books available on here, but mostly it looks like these are relatively new artists and I am so excited to follow them now! If you are a crazy art head like me, immerse yourself in this book! There is no better place to spend your time.
One of the things I liked about this book was the luxury of lots of illustrations. As if the art director said, I don't care what it costs, or how many pages it takes, this book is going to have as many illustrations as it needs. And they are fabulous.
The writing is touching, I teared up reading Inga Semmingsen's account of being in Oslo at the time of the recent terrorist bombing. But it's also funny (a dog wants to go back to the pound to get away from a ghost) and thought provoking (a man finds love letters to his deceased wife from one of their friends).
Buy it, read it, enjoy it! I did.
I too echo the observations written by Aaron Dietz and the mysterious Mr. Mulvihill; this is a genius collection of words and art from a collaborative of close friends who spontenously and brilliantly put their love for each other on paper, for the entire world to see. I can't express enough how proud I am to be part of this unique collaboration, and I'm more proud of the fact that I can call them all my friends. I knew this was going to be good. I was unprepared for how great the result is. Exquisitely designed (take a bow, Erin McParland!), impeccably written, colorfully drawn.
"Labor of love" is a phrase that usually makes me roll my eyes, but "Uno Kudo, Vol.1" is indeed a labor of love. My jaw's still on the floor from being so awed by the rush of genius that explodes off of every page.
Trust me, you won't be disappointed.
UNO KUDO VOLUME 1 is the culmination of years of friendship and support from a disparate group of rogue writers from the clouded collective memory known as myspace. Somehow in the pre-overdone days of that site, these writers and artists built friendships, rivalries, and respect, but even more then that, they built each other up. Rather than let their relationship go the way of myspace itself, they decided to evolve into the future by creating this book.
Flipping through these pages is like looking at an intimate family album, with more personality per page than most compilations would dare. From the moody and magnificent Richard Cox to the grounded poetry of Erin McParland; from the futuristic tone-poem of Aaron Dietz to the heartbreaking desperation in Gus Sanchez' story, UK1 is a spectacular and unique testament to the writers and the writers' respect for each other - which is evident on each and every page.
A strong debut from an improbable team.
Kudos to them.
This collaboration of artists, photographers, designers, editors, and writers of various styles all come together in this Bookzine Volume 1 to create something unlike I've ever seen. The fact that the group met by supporting each others' works online many years ago, continued building friendships and a creative network is a great inspiration for others. There literally is something for everyone in this Volume. You will not be disappointed, and it is fantastic that the group decided to donate their proceeds to charity. It shows that the group values their friendships and creations together over anything commercial. Please take a look and consider purchasing one for yourself and anyone else that you know would like this.
An absolutely beautiful collection of words and art, brought to us by a cutting edge group of writers, artists and photographers from all walks of life. The open ended theme of "Ripped" allows each artist and writer to put their own personal stamp on a great collective piece. I was hooked from the cover alone but my excitement grew with the turn of each page. I would highly recommend this book for any fan of art and literature.
This book is not only well done but holds an edge like a hunting knife. What makes this book so good is that it is does not follow any formula. It goes here and then it goes there.
